Privacy policy
Bucketree is built so that we hold almost nothing about you. This page says exactly what that means, including the places where it is not quite nothing.
The short version
Your Backblaze keys never leave your Mac. Your files never pass through us. We run no analytics on this site. The only personal data we can see is what you send us in an email, and what Freemius tells us about a purchase.
Your Backblaze credentials
Keys are stored in the macOS data protection keychain on your own Mac, and are synchronised to your other Macs by iCloud Keychain if you have that turned on. They are sent to Backblaze to authorize your session and to nobody else. They are never transmitted to us, and there is no account with us to transmit them to.
The application also keeps an Activity Log on your Mac. No credential ever reaches it: not the account key, not the authorization token, not the token embedded in a share link. That is enforced by a test rather than by intention, which is what makes the log safe to send us with a bug report.
Your files
Your files move between your Mac and Backblaze directly. They are not proxied, copied, scanned or indexed by us, and we have no ability to read them. What happens to them at Backblaze is governed by your agreement with Backblaze.
This website
No cookies, no analytics, no forms. Our web server keeps ordinary access logs containing IP addresses, which exist to keep the server running and secure, and are not used to build any profile of you.
Software updates
The application checks this site for a new version. That request tells our server your IP address, the version you are running and your macOS version, in the same way any web request would. We do not join those records to anything else. Update checking can be turned off in the application, and the application still works.
When you buy a licence
Freemius process the purchase as merchant of record and are the controller for the payment itself. They collect your name, email address, billing country and payment details, and we never see the payment details.
What reaches us is a licence record: your email address, what you bought, and which machines the licence is activated on, identified by an anonymous machine identifier rather than by anything about the machine. We use it to support you and to honour the three-activation limit.
How long we keep things
Licence records are kept while the licence exists and for as long afterwards as tax law requires us to keep sales records. Support emails are kept while they are useful and deleted when they are not. Server access logs rotate and are not archived.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, and object to how we use it. Write to support@macupp.com and a person will answer. If you are unsatisfied you may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
For anything held by Freemius or Backblaze, their own policies and processes apply, because they are the controllers for that data.
