Let Claude work in your buckets without handing it a key
Claude is one client. Any tool that speaks the Model Context Protocol is another, and every way to put one of them on Backblaze B2 today starts with an application key pasted into a config file. Bucketree’s MCP server, the first update after launch, lets any of them work in your buckets with the key Bucketree is already signed in with. The key stays in the keychain. The agent never sees it.

Your key stays where it is
The client connects to Bucketree, not to Backblaze, and only on your Mac, and only while you have switched the server on. Its config carries a token Bucketree shows you once, the way a created key is shown once, and revokes from Settings. There is no B2 key in any file an agent can read.
Reads first, then the careful writes
List buckets, list a folder, search, get info, run the storage report, download, and copy a share link. Upload is allowed. Hide and delete are only possible through the app’s own confirmation sheet, so a person clicks and the model never does.
Some things are not on offer at all
No creating or revoking keys, no deleting buckets, no migrations or replications. Those stay in the app, behind a person, and no MCP client can reach them.
Every call in the Activity Log
Each request is recorded at notice level with a “via MCP” marker and the client’s name, so an agent’s afternoon in your buckets reads like a person’s, and can be exported the same way.
How it will work
Bucketree serves the Model Context Protocol from inside the app, on a local port, so the client and the app are the same Mac and the same user. The client presents the token; Bucketree performs the B2 calls with the key it holds and returns the results. In the trial the read tools work and the write tools ask for a licence, the same line the migration and replication buttons draw today.
The tools are a deliberately short list. The design records what the server refuses to expose as carefully as what it offers, and that list is on this page rather than in a footnote, because it is the whole point.
Where this page stands
The MCP server is agreed and designed, and it is the first build after the 1.0 launch. This page will grow a claude.ai connector recipe, a help page and screenshots when it ships. Until then the download button above gets you the app the server will live in.
